The Story Behind the “Flow”

McLaren P1

McLaren P1

A seasoned and discerning collector reached out to me — someone with dozens of artworks in his collection and a clear vision of what he wants to see on the canvas. I immediately realized this would be a truly exciting project.

Captivating, profound — and incredibly demanding. And that’s exactly how it turned out.

Main Character

The first step was to define the main character of the painting. We were choosing between the legendary McLaren P1 and the equally striking McLaren W1. The challenge was that the W1 is a conceptual model and doesn’t exist in real life — but the collector was truly drawn to its design.

After careful discussion, we decided to go with the P1, as its iconic curves aligned more closely with the artistic concept we envisioned together. That’s how the journey began — a painting where every line would reflect power, elegance, and motion.

Vertical / Horizontal

We explored various ways to position the McLaren P1 — from a distant, almost silhouette-like view to a striking central placement in the frame. Special attention was given to the orientation, as the painting is quite large: 121.92 × 152.4 cm (48 × 60 inches), and any compositional misstep could affect the overall impression.

After multiple discussions and visual tests, the collector wrote:

"The more I think about the horizontal composition of the McLaren P1 (48” x 60”), the more I like it."

That’s how we arrived at the final decision — to go with a horizontal orientation. It perfectly highlights the shape of the car and the scale of the entire scene.

The most challenging part of the work is complete — the McLaren P1 is now fully detailed. Its aerodynamics, elegant curves, and unique design were a true test of skill. But that’s what made the process so engaging: I wasn’t just painting — I was experiencing every millimeter of this engineering masterpiece.

The most critical moment is the background detailing.

I always treat the background with special care, because it is what sets the emotional tone of the entire painting. The background makes the viewer look closer, come back to it again and again, unable to turn away. It requires incredibly meticulous, entirely hand-crafted work — especially in my technique, where the amount of effort dedicated to the background is truly astonishing.

I spent around 160 hours creating this background. This scale of work is driven by my signature method of blurring and acceleration: to achieve a smooth, flowing visual effect in the lines and silhouettes, I blur the background with my custom tool more than 200 times. It is a demanding and exhausting process, but it is exactly what creates that unique sense of speed and motion that defines my art.

Yes, it’s difficult — but I do it with immense passion and love, so that the painting resonates as powerfully and deeply as possible.
